As can be seen by the map above, the Faroe Islands are within the path of totality, but they are not directly under the central path of the Total Solar Eclipse. The Svalbard Islands is the only other island group under the path of Totality. The Svalbard Islands are located in the Arctic Ocean, halfway between Norway and the North Pole.

 

The Svalbard Islands is directly under the central line of the solar eclipse, dividing the umbra shadow into the northern half of the Solar Eclipse and southern half of the Solar Eclipse.

 

The Svalbard Islands is the only land-fall on Earth where the actual central line of the Solar Eclipse traverses.

The Total Solar Eclipse of 20 March 2015 belongs to Saros Series 130.

Solar eclipses of Saros Series 130 all occur at the Moon’s descending node with the Moon moving northward in each subsequent eclipse.

 

Saros Series 130 began with a partial eclipse in the southern hemisphere near the South Pole on 20 August 1096, and is moving northwards in each subsequent eclipse. Saros Series 130 will end with a partial eclipse in the northern hemisphere near the North Pole on 25 October 2394.

 

Saros Series 130 is composed of 73 solar eclipses.

The total duration of Saros series 130 is 1298.17 years.

Even if cloud spoils the view of the eclipse, it is still a dramatic affect. A lot goes on during a Total Solar Eclipse, with increased wind speeds, darkening of skies, slow temperature drop, and at the moment of totality a dramatic drop in temperature, silence of animals, and the wind that has been blowing hard immediately ceases; it stops as through some giant hand has switched-off a giant fan; it is amazing.
